The best form of government is a benevolent dictator

这几个礼拜，新加坡最热的话题不过即将到来的General Election。国会87个议席只有5个被PAP不战而得。在Hougang单选区呆了二十几年的反对党来到Aljunied集选区，PAP相应派出现任外交部长迎战。

于是，每天的报纸上电视里都能看到PAP和WP之间的论战。一个说着眼全局，一个就说重视地方发展；一个说要当副驾驶，一个就说只能有一个司机……李显龙和吴作栋没少说话，但最厉害的还是李光耀。上周六，李光耀受采访说：如果Aljunied的选民选择了WP，他们将有五年来反思和后悔。

舆论一片哗然。周围无论是中国人还是新加坡人，都觉得李光耀这话简直是赤裸裸的威胁。

他的原话是这样的：

“If Aljunied decides to go that way, well Aljunied has five years to live and repent.”

“We accept the verdict of the people, but they must also accept the consequences of their actions. You must expect the PAP to look after PAP constituencies first”

说错了么？我没觉得。

诚然，PAP是独裁，李光耀是一言堂。但就这次GE的竞选过程来看，反对党没有受到多大限制，想说的话都有人报道，该贴的标幅也都贴了，民众对不同声音的期盼也可以在主流媒体上受到非常明显的相应。允许反对党说话，就不允许执政党得理不饶人？如果真要以一般政党的要求对看待PAP，照顾自己的选民又有什么错？“你们会后悔”和“你们会没有自由没有民主”，哪个听起来更像是哗众取宠？

现在的确是PAP一党独大，其它党派的发展会被自然或人为地打压。但为什么就不利用现在的优势？为什么要给竞争对手制造机会？即便我相信PAP会为新加坡国民着想，我更理解PAP会认为他们独自掌权会更利于政策的连续性和有效性。

当年学GP的时候看到过这么一句话：The best form of government is a benevolent dictator。
曾深以为然，依旧。



不仅仅是这句，几个月前出版的the hard truth也有这么一段引起巨大争议的话，以至于后来连李光耀自己都得出来更正：

I think we were progressing very nicely until the surge of Islam came, and if you asked me for my observations, the other communities have easier integration – friends, intermarriages and so on, Indians with Chinese, Chinese with Indians – than Muslims.

I would say, today, we can integrate all religions and races except Islam.

I think the Muslims socially do not cause any trouble, but they are distinct and separate.

Be less strict on Islamic observances and say: ‘Okay, I’ll eat with you’.

我觉得他说得挺真实的，只是不适合以他的身份来讲罢了。



人之将死其言也善？挺好一老头，多活几年吧
